Around Lucerne's old town

Point 8 of 9 – Free Walking Tour

Museggmauer / Zytturm

LocalGuide from Lucerne, Silvan

Some info

  • Here we are at my favorite viewpoint in the city of Lucerne.
  • Be sure to check out the Zytturm right behind us (possibly hidden by the trees).
  • If the tower is open, you can check out the free exhibition on tower clocks. Clocks from 1526 to 1914 are presented. The clocks are still wound by hand every day.
  • The Zytturm clock is still in operation. It strikes on the hour exactly one minute before all other clocks. There is an instruction manual for this clock dating back to 1386.
  • From the Musegg wall, the view is a blast.

Tip

In summer, when the weather is nice, there is a Buvette to the right of here, a small, simple restaurant with a bar and the best view.

Exactly. The Zytturm and their clock is special. That's why the clock always strikes one minute before all others.
